Horse racing is a entertainment that has lived for centuries. It started back through the Roman era during their practice of chariot racing. On the other hand horse racing has steadily grown through the years.

There is a remarkable selection in the dissimilar class of horse racing. Every competition is influenced by where it is being held and what kind of surface the horses are battle on.

The entire horse racing surfaces are flat but several of the surfaces that competition are held on are dirt polytrack, or even grass.

There are three traditional types of horse racing: Thoroughbred racing, quarter horse racing, and harness racing. In the horse racing world there are several high profile races. Perhaps the best race is the Kentucky Derby, which is held every spring.

The increasing influence of Coolmore Stud

In February 2006, at Calder in Florida, Irish vet Demi O’Byrne, bidding for a syndicate from Coolmore Stud, paid $16.1 million for a two-year-old colt by Forestry, shattering the record price for a thoroughbred set more than 20 years earlier. The colt, who was never to win a race, was named The Green Monkey and, as with Seattle Dancer, who set the previous benchmark of $13.1 million, the Maktoum family of Dubai were underbidders to John Magnier’s team. Not much had changed, it seemed, during the intervening period.

Coolmore had grown in scale during htose years, although now Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley stud operation bids to rival Coolmore as a global stallion giant.
