What to Do When You’re Small Blind

by Stamatis Jarl

An aggressive player is someone who likes to push the action and tries to make things according to how he wants the situation to be. On the other hand, there seem to be position at the table that I am awfully doubtful to play aggressively. I find this position very dangerous to play since you are first to act after the flop. This is called the small blind, which is just to the left of the dealer. I’ve discovered that playing aggressively from this position will simply lead you to trouble.

Supposing, all four of your opponents limp in to see the flop while you are dealt a Q9 of diamonds. As an outcome you also decide to also limp in, since you like your hand and by now have half of your ante in the pot, With no diamonds on the board, the flop hits Q, 3, 7. At this time you are first to act through the top pair on board.

You Have to Lose to Win at Poker

by Vinnie Belford

Even if you are one of the best poker players around you still have to lose on occasion. Just ask some of the WSOP winners and they will tell you that losing is part of the process. Whether it is a single hand or leaving a game out of pocket, losing at poker is a rite of passage. Losing may not be a great prospect, but it will make you a better player in the long run.

We can’t expect to win all of the time at anything in life, and seasoned poker players certainly don’t let a few losses affect them. Sometimes you just don’t have the best hand, so you lose. The sooner you accept that fact the less it will bother you and you will become a better player for it.
