Variation Of Texas Hold’em: Omaha Hold’em

by Thomas Kearns

One wonderful thing about poker is that there is always something new and exciting surrounding it. New to the world of poker is Omaha hold’em, a variation of Texas hold’em where four cards are dealt instead of two.

The additional cards force you to make a choice of which cards you want to play. You have more options than in Texas hold’em, but you also have more decisions to make. In essence, the crux of the matter is which two of the four cards in your hand do you want to play based on the community cards dealt on the table. With Texas hold’em, there is no choice to make, you must play the cards you have been dealt to you to your best ability. With Omaha, you still play with only two cards, but it’s up to you which two those will be.

Poker: When To Stop Playing

by Thomas Kearns

We have all rued the day when we overstayed our welcome at those losing rounds of poker. In hindsight, it is easy to see that we should have walked away hours earlier. The problem is, if we did that, we would always be tormented by that jackpot that was just around the corner, awaiting a few more hands. But no, we stay and lose right down to that last grim deal. To make matters worse, since we have no idea why we put up with this torture in the first place, we go back and do it again and again.

One absolutely must use their powers of reasoning to logically analyze the situation to determine if they should hold or fold. You know when to go to the airport so you won’t miss the plane for that important business meeting. If you are hanging on in desperation waiting for that winning hand and miss your chance to get to the airport on time, you are going to get totally stressed. You won’t play well, you missed the plane and that important meeting. You are also harming yourself and your career.

Charles Wells The Famous Roulette Player

by Don Parker

Few roulette players have achieved the level of fame that Charles Wells did. Charles Wells is the only roulette player to have a song to honor his name. In July 1891 Wells went right into the Monte Carlo in hope of replicating Jagger’s success, and replicate it he did.

Growing up Charles Wells dreamed of breaking the bank at casinos. Many players before him had cleaned out entire tables; this was unusual but not unheard of. Charles on the other hand wanted to clean out the entire casino.

What made Charles Wells different from other gamblers isn’t just that his ambitions were much higher than his gambling counterparts; it was the fact that he had dreamed these ambitions since he was a small boy. Most of his life was an attempt to obtain the money needed to attempt one big score.

by James Pines

It’s amazingly been over 90 years since it occurred, but the legendary ‘19 World Series scandal most definitely lives on with baseball historians and any enthusiasts of the game. With much controversy these days about Pete Rose and his possible place in Cooperstown, another figure with parallels to Rose is Shoeless Joe Jackson, who played for the’19 White Sox (also known as the “Black Sox”) for their role in throwing the’19 World Series against the Reds.

Increase Poker Cash Flow With High Rakeback

by Frank Grimm

Do you know that you can make large amounts of money by playing in poker rooms that give large rakeback returns?

Most poker rooms online charge what is known as a rake. This is how online poker rooms commonly make their money when they offer tables for players to use. Many tables also offer what is known as a rake payout to their players. This benefit is similar to comps in a regular casino. Players who play large sums of money can greatly benefit from tables that give back large sums through rake paybacks.

When playing in online poker rooms, you should look into the rooms that give you the largest benefits from their bonus payouts. When you are receiving large payouts from a casino, you will have an advantage when competing with players online who are not receiving the same returns from their casino benefits.

Sports Handicapping: Accusations Of NBA Betting By Referees

by Rich Allen

Tim Donaghy, the former NBA referee makes some serious claims in his new book. He claims that refs would purposely tinker with game results, are dishonest, and would even argue about things as small as who should tip the ball boys in the NBA.

The most intriguing parts of the book are when Donaghy names names and points out certain referees and how they took pleasure in manipulating games. Tim discusses Dick Bavetta who was a ref in one of the worst officiated ganmes in history: game six of the 2001 western conference finals between LA and Sacramento. And although it’s arguable, he makes the following claim as well:

I bet the losing team simply because I was certain they would cover the spread, even if they played the game badly. This is when Mr. Bavetta shows up.
