Casinos aren’t all Bad
Posted by John Mann at Mar 5th, 2010 in Gambling
Everyone loves a trip to the casino; usually it’s the trip back that leaves some of us wondering how we’re going to pay the gas bill on Monday. Still though, knowing a few things about the casino will help you get along a little better. Yup, some etiquette will no doubt come in handy.
Looking cool while you lose lots of money is second only to looking cool while you win lots of money. Sometimes Lady Luck doesn’t give us a choice on winning or losing, but we all have the chance to look cool every time. A few etiquette rules will definitely help out.
The tables are the most interesting aspect and usually where people end up in the most trouble. The card tables offer several different types of games. If you are unfamiliar with a game, standing by and watching is allowed. Sitting down to watch is not. No one is going to rap your knuckles with a ruler, but you will be asked to place a bet or vacate the seat. This is probably the biggest breach of etiquette.
Usually if you step out of line in some way or another the dealer will let you know politely. They are paid to take your money and smile. Understanding the dealer and their limitations will often yield a few tips every so often. Um, they do this professionally all the time, so getting a few tips is a pretty good thing I would say.
Being polite to your dealer and realizing that they don’t have any control over the house rules will make a difference. The deal has absolutely no control over how the game is played. Each dealer is held to the same rules and standards as the next. This means that every dealer has to do the same things. To do so insures you are playing the house.
Getting angry with the dealer makes as much sense as getting angry with a remote control car instead of the guy holding the remote. In this case getting angry with that guy doesn’t make much sense either. Casinos do not stay in business by giving away money.
Free drinks are my favorite. I like them much better than the kind you have to pay for. While you are gambling, you will be offered drinks every so often. Take advantage of these and enjoy! The house definitely wants you to stay comfortable and to keep on playing. Just make sure you take care of your server. They work hard and people often forget to tip them. Doing so might mean you get your free drinks more often.
Following these simple steps will help you enjoy your casino experience. Being the nice person who plays a game as a game and has a good time is just part of it. You definitely want to make the right impressions with the staff. Usually it is very much appreciated.
